News…
• We have a wonderful couple that is praying about joining our team in
Guatemala in 2009…that would make 7 people on the team.
• Another wonderful couple has announced their engagement! Our son Mike and
Beth Burrell will be married on September 27. We are overjoyed!!
Our Home Church…
Inspired by a topic at our home church, we have launched a day of prayer for the
persecuted church and for the children in Uganda. Our deaf students were informed
about the persecution around the world and in their own backyard and were very
impacted.
Mentoring…
• Janet is finishing 9 months of sewing class with her three girls. After each
project there is a follow up activity. For instance, when they finished making their
pajama pants they had a pajama party at our house. It was complete with junk food,
soda, and silly dare games.
• Howard is continuing to seize every possible moment to teach the boys real life
work skills. Most recently they helped mix and pour concrete for a 150’ sidewalk.
They also built a block wall and applied the stucco. Noel, 14 years old, has worked
on two different roofs with Howard and is now Howard’s right hand man for roofing.
Chapel…
Whew! Nine months of chapel, 5 days a week. That’s a lot of teaching and a lot of
creative juices. Thank you for all your ideas, books, supplies, and prayer. Working
with the Deaf is a long process. Once they obtain a language they go through a long
arduous process of learning concepts like sin and forgiveness. The children
learned a lot and Janet had one boy, Adrian, pray to receive Christ. As you can
imagine, Adrian and Janet are now forever bonded! He walks by Janet and signs,
“You and me. We’re friends.”
Short Term Missions…
We have hosted over 1000 short term-ers this year. It is invigorating to be around
such energy! We got a lot of projects accomplished but more importantly we have
exposed many people to missions. Two couples, from two parts of the country,
(seasoned servants like us) are now praying about full time missions.
God has worked in amazing ways and is growing us into useable vessels who are
ready to take on the task he has prepared for us. We are excited to share some of
these experiences with you. We are also looking forward to hearing all about what is
going on in your life. We miss you so!
Please make every effort to attend the open house on July 7th.
