We completed our 3-year commitment in Mexico and it was a wonderful time of making friends,
ministering to the dear children there, and learning a lot about the different aspects of working
with the deaf in a developing country.
Now we are preparing for the official launch of the ministry in Guatemala. Thank you all so much
for standing alongside us in this amazing journey that God has ordained. We will be going to
Guatemala on a “Survey Trip” in order to launch “Phase One” of the ministry.
Here is a brief timeline of that month in Guatemala.
August 1-8: Orientation with Pioneers - Orlando, FL.
August 19 – fly to Guatemala
August 20-21: meet with Thelma and, Lord willing, the audiologist in Guatemala City
August 23: Attend church at our partnering church in San Cristobal
August 24-28: Visit families with deaf children and invite them to church
August 30: FIRST DAY OF SUNDAY SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF
Each week we will continue visiting families and building relationships in an effort to grow the
ministry.
Throughout our time there we will be earnestly praying and anticipating God’s direction in how to
reach the deaf of Guatemala. We invite you to pray with us during this important birthing time.
PRAYER
• That we will have creativity and clarity as we vision cast for the future.
• That we can locate deaf children! We have some good ideas but it will be exciting to see
how God leads once we get there. We have already received emails regarding four
different deaf children who are interested in coming to our school. We will locate them and
meet their families when we arrive in Guatemala. They are all girls – 2 are siblings. It’s
amazing to think that in a couple of months we will have names and faces of children to
pray for!
• Pray that God will begin now to soften the hearts of the families that we meet. We are
hoping that the families will attend church with their deaf child. If they don’t, we will need to
arrange transportation…another matter of prayer.
• We will be working with Thelma to fine tune our mission and vision statements. Pray for
God’s leading as we plan the direction and the how-to’s of this new ministry.
• Find a place to live in Guatemala…and learn the ropes of a VERY new city!
• Financial support. Please pray to see if God would have you partner with us in this work.
When we return from Guatemala we will know our exact financial needs and will include
this information in our next newsletter.
